Lifting Accidents

Injuries while Lifting (including lifting heavy objects, lifting light objects, reaching for objects and dropping objects while lifting) was a major cause of workplace injury claims for 2009.

Workplace Safety Tips for Lifting:

 

  • Educate employees about the dangers of lifting
  • Ask others for help when lifting heavy objects
  • Use proper lifting techniques, bend your knees and lift with your legs
  • Minimize lifting tasks by providing lifting equipment and mechanical devices
  • Repetitive motion injuries are prevented by stretch breaks and exercises
  • Ensure storage areas are adequate and accessible
  • Ensure loading docks are visible and well maintained
  • Ensure workers exercise, stretch or warm-up before work and throughout the day
  • Have all equipment and materials within reach of workers who need them
  • Provide new employees with special attention and supervision to ensure proper lifting

     

Some Workplace Accident Prevention Tips:

  • Prompt and Accurate Reporting- Ensure first reports are accurate and descriptive
  • Employee Training & Awareness - Conduct specific training employee safety. The AMERIND Safety Team has over 30 training packages
  • Investigate Accidents - Determine cause and adjust the procedures to be proactive
  • Personal Protective Equipment - Wear the right equipment for the job
