Lifting Accidents
Injuries while Lifting (including lifting heavy objects, lifting light objects, reaching for objects and dropping objects while lifting) was a major cause of workplace injury claims for 2009.
Workplace Safety Tips for Lifting:
- Educate employees about the dangers of lifting
- Ask others for help when lifting heavy objects
- Use proper lifting techniques, bend your knees and lift with your legs
- Minimize lifting tasks by providing lifting equipment and mechanical devices
- Repetitive motion injuries are prevented by stretch breaks and exercises
- Ensure storage areas are adequate and accessible
- Ensure loading docks are visible and well maintained
- Ensure workers exercise, stretch or warm-up before work and throughout the day
- Have all equipment and materials within reach of workers who need them
- Provide new employees with special attention and supervision to ensure proper lifting

- Prompt and Accurate Reporting- Ensure first reports are accurate and descriptive
- Employee Training & Awareness - Conduct specific training employee safety. The AMERIND Safety Team has over 30 training packages

- Personal Protective Equipment - Wear the right equipment for the job
