Vehicular Accidents
AMERIND’s Safety Team recently completed an analysis on our TEIP (Tribal Employee Injury Protection) program and found that Vehicular Accidents (including accidents at night, duringthe day, and driving in inclement weather) had the largest increase of workplace injury claims.
Safe Driving Tips:
• Do not drink and drive.
• Do not use cell phones or other distractions while driving.
• Do not use excessive speed; obey traffic laws and safe roadway practices
• Always wear a seatbelt and ensure all passengers and loads are properly restrained
• Consider driver’s awareness and education programs, vehicle maintenance programs, license validation programs
• Program your cell phone with "in case of emergency" names and phone numbers to help emergency workers
• Keep emergency supplies in your car; hats, gloves and blankets in cold weather, first aid kit, water, tool box, flashlight, water, road flares/emergency markers
Motor Vehicle Accidents:
If you are involved in a motor vehicle accident while conducting the IHA business, you
should do the following:
1. Never admit liability.
2. Secure the name, address and phone number of the other party, if applicable.
3. Contact 911 and report the accident to the local police authorities.
4. Contact the IHA office and report the accident to the Executive Director5. Contact the rental car agency if a rental car is involved.
Safety is no accident!
